Sheikh Dr. Maher bin Hamad Al Muaiqly was born in the city of Madinah in 1969, hailing from the Al Muaiqly clan of Yanbu. His early life was marked by a strong passion for Mathematics, a subject he not only excelled in but also went on to teach after completing his higher education. Parallel to his academic pursuits, Sheikh Maher dedicated himself to the memorization of the Quran, a commitment that saw him leading prayers in various mosques in Madinah.
Seeking to deepen his understanding of Islamic studies, Sheikh Maher moved to Makkah where he pursued advanced religious education. He completed his Master's degree and subsequently earned his PhD from Umm Al-Qura University in 2012. During this period, he continued to lead prayers in Makkah and Madinah, especially during Ramadan, where his recitations attracted large congregations eager to pray behind him.
Sheikh Maher’s reputation grew, leading to his appointment as an adviser to Prince Abdul Majid in Makkah. Despite his prestigious role, he chose to return to academia, teaching at King Abdullah Saud University in Makkah. His dedication to both education and religious service never waned.
In 1426 and 1427 (2005 and 2006), Sheikh Maher was appointed to lead Taraweeh prayers in Masjid Al Nabawi. His exemplary leadership and recitation led to his appointment in 1428 (2007) as a Taraweeh prayer leader in Masjid Al Haram, Makkah. After Ramadan that year, he was made a permanent imam, a significant milestone in his career.
From 2008 to 2014, Sheikh Maher led Taraweeh prayers in pairs with Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al Sudais and later with Sheikh Abdullah Awad Al Juhany. In 2015, he once again paired with Sheikh Sudais, and in 2016, he led alongside Sheikh Khalid Al Ghamdi and Sheikh Abdullah Awad Al Juhany. That same year, a royal decree by King Salman appointed him as Khateeb of Masjid Al Haram, with his first khutbah delivered on July 15, 2016.
In 1444 (2023), Sheikh Maher was appointed Deputy Hajj Khateeb in Masjid Al Namirah. His profound impact and leadership were further recognized when he was appointed to deliver the Arafat sermon as Hajj Khateeb in 1445 (2024).
Sheikh Maher Al Muaiqly's journey is a testament to his unwavering commitment to faith, education, and community service, making him a revered figure in the Islamic world.
